Junkanoo Beach in Nassau, Bahamas Review

Our Experience & Photos from when we visited. This article gives you an idea of what to expect at Junkanoo Beach in Nassau, Bahamas.

Our Rating: ***** (5 Stars)

We last visited this beach in August 2021. This was our first time to ever visit the beach. It was also right when the port and Carnival had opened back up do to being on pause due to the COVID outbreak so cruise ship were sailing at smaller capacities still. There was also only two ship in port the day we visited.

Access to Junkanoo Beach is free and is conveniently located close to the cruise port (about 10 minutes away) within walking distance. It is the beach that joins the Arawak Cay and Long Wharf and it is about 5 Minutes past the Straw Market. You can rent a lounge chair, umbrella, and various other water sports equipment. You will also run across several vendors on the beach who will ask if you would like things such as Fake Tattoos, Hair braiding, massages, etc. They can get a bit pesky trying to get you to buy but just politely tell them no thanks and they will leave you alone. We also went right when cruising and the port had just opened back up from COVID so they were really needing the money. We did buy a few things though.

At the time we visited this beach  it was not very crowed. Keep in mind though that it can be crowded especially certain times of the year. Spring Break, for example, is not a great time to be at Junkanoo Beach. Also, if there are a lot of cruise ships in port It an be very crowded and have a party like vibe then. However, the beach is also nice for the family.

If you are looking for a more secluded beach you may not like this one. However, We really enjoyed it and would definitely go there again. Plus it's a free beach which is great for those who are looking for a free or cheap excursion option.

Drinks

There is a full service bar and grill, Tiki Bikini Hut, located right on the beach which we fully enjoyed. especially enjoyed there Pineapple drinks, perhaps we had a bit to many. Make sure to try the Bahama Mama it is a crowd favorite and the best drink especially inside those pineapples.

Restaurants, Stores, Etc.

You will also find various other restaurants and vendors located on the beach. We actually did a little souvenir shopping here and bought a nice sundress and beach bag all for about $30.00. Do keep in mind that if you plan to make purchases on this beach most places only take cash and not cards. We actually only fount one shop that would even take a card.

Conclusion

Now, every one is going to have a different opinion. Some people will love junkanoo Beach and some will not. Honestly, f you just got to try it out and judge for yourself. Do keep in mind it is free public beach which did not deter us we loved it and would definitely go there again!

Junkanoo Beach has beautiful blue green waters like you see in almost all the Caribbean waters. When we visited the water was clean and clear and we could see to the bottom. We took a taxi to the beach as we had went to Atlantis first but we walked back to the ship afterwards finishing up our last pineapple. It was about a 10 minute walk back tot he ship. We really enjoyed the walk and the views back to the ship.
